Cathy Battistessa is a visionary recording artist and an acclaimed painter and sculptor. Her work is hopeful and soul-bearing, connecting both the visible and invisible threads between art and music.
Widely acknowledged as the Voice of the Café del Mar, she is both author and performer of many timeless chill-out songs featured on compilations worldwide including ‘Oh Home’ (Paco Fernandez & Levitation), ‘Speck of Gold’ & ‘Let It Go’ (Afterlife), ‘Riva’ (Slow Pulse), ‘We The Light’ (James Bright), and ‘Happiness’ (Blank and Jones).
Cathy’s collaboration with Levitation on ‘More Than Ever People’ established their place in the underground Balearic dance scene. The track was picked up by Café del Mar resident DJ Jose Padilla and played religiously every night for crowds of sun downers. It became a beloved Ibiza anthem and has been featured extensively in commercial ads, TV- series and documentaries.
Having spent years shuttling between the UK and Ibiza, Cathy and her six-year-old son relocated to South America in search of inspiration and adventures in new cultural terrain. In a battered Toyota Corolla, they clocked up 4,000km crossing the Andes, from Santiago de Chile to Pucon, and through the deserts of Argentina into Rio and beyond, collaborating with local musicians en route. Cathy’s involvement with remote communities and charities gave her the opportunity to support fundraising events, playing from the favelas to the biggest stages across Brazil and Chile.
Back in the UK, Cathy has designed a custom-built recording studio, nestled in the green heart of the Devonshire countryside. The studio is her sanctuary, an inspirational hub which plays host to many notable artists, musicians and producers.
Live Performances to date include Rob da Banks’ Bestival; MTV; Ministry Of Sound; opening and closing parties for iconic Ibiza clubs; various BBC Radio & TV appearances such as This Morning, the BBC Help Haiti concert, Radio 1 in Ibiza and Radio 4 Arts and fashion showcases for Armani, Porsche, Prada and Helena Rubinstein. A personal highlight was performing for the Dalai Lama’s birthday concert at the CoBo Arena in Frankfurt.
Today Cathy is nearing completion of her first solo album - an album that maps this soul-searching journey from Ibiza to South America. The album she always wanted to make: songs of belonging: songs of big emotions, made larger still by the raw emotion she pours into them.
